Politics In the past I have not openly endorsed or spoken out about politics. I didn't think it was appropriate, and I didn't want to risk alienating anyone from any of the projects I have worked on. With the exception of friends and family, I have made an effort to keep my views and opinions to myself. I have gathered information, made decisions and voted for the candidates that best represented me, and hoped for the best.
That's not enough this time.
This election I am actively supporting Barack Obama for President. I have donated money to his campaign, bought t-shirts, a sign to put in our yard, and bumper stickers to put on our cars - these are things I've never done before. I’m also going to use this space to provide information. I'm not keeping my opinions to myself this time, there is too much at stake. |

How are things going?
We've had George Bush as president for 8 years. When Republicans haven't been in charge of the House and Senate, they have been working as obstructionists and doing anything they can to continue their disastrous policies.
John McCain has been trying to call himself a maverick but in truth he's been nothing more than George Bush's pony, voting with him more than 90% of the time. If John McCain is elected we will get four more years just like the last eight, maybe worse. John McCain keeps calling himself a reformer, but he is what needs to be reformed.
Economic meltdown
The current economic crisis was brought on by Republican leadership and Republican policies. John McCain has been saying for months, and even this past week that "the fundamentals of the economy are strong" he's also said that he doesn't know as much about economics as he should, it seems like he's right. Earlier this summer his chief Economic advisor Phil Gramm said "you've heard of mental depression; this is a mental recession" and "we have sort of become a nation of whiners." While politicians and economists are desperately trying to figure out how to deal with this situation, the things everyone seems to agree on are that deregulation is largely responsible for this crisis - John McCain has been a deregulator for his entire career.
If you repeat a lie often enough... it does not become true
There is an unprecedented level of lying in this presidential campaign. Blatant shameless lies are being repeated every day by the Palin-McCain campaign. Even when the media has exposed them, John McCain and Sarah Palin keep repeating the same lies again and again. Even Karl Rove (a.k.a. Tubby McTreason), the king of dirty politics, has said that McCain has gone too far.

Lie |
Barack Obama will raise your taxes.
This lie is as old as dirt, it’s brought out by the Republicans every election cycle to scare people. This year it’s a complete lie. Barack Obama’s tax plan will lower taxes for 95% of working families, lower them. Under Barack Obama’s plan the people who make the least amount of money will get the biggest tax breaks, under John McCain's tax plan the people who make the highest amount of money get the biggest tax breaks.
In spite of the fact that this has been exposed as a lie John McCain keeps repeating it and has now tacked more lies onto this one. He is now saying Barack Obama will raise taxes on electricity, home heating oil, and “life savings” too. None of these things are true either.

"I told Congress, thanks but no thanks on that Bridge to Nowhere."
Sarah Palin supported the $400 million dollar project during her campaign for governor, and after being elected. After the “Bridge to Nowhere” became a scandal and a source of ridicule the U.S. Congress refused to fund the project. The bridge was cancelled but Congress still gave the state of Alaska $223 million dollars. Sarah Palin didn’t cancel the bridge and she kept the money. The fact that the story is a lie hasn’t stopped Sarah Palin from telling it again, and again, and again.

"That luxury jet was over the top. I put it on eBay." – Sarah Palin
“She took the luxury jet that was acquired by her predecessor and sold it on eBay - and made a profit!" – John McCain
Sarah Palin did put the plane on Ebay, three times, but it didn’t sell. Republican speaker of the Alaska House, John L. Harris, sold it 8 months later through an aircraft broker, at a $600,000.00 loss.
